Car Rental FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Car Rental In Uganda

Planning a trip to Uganda often comes with a list of logistical questions, especially when it comes to navigating the “Pearl of Africa” on your own terms. To help you prepare, Pearl Drive Car Rental has compiled the most frequently asked questions from travelers to ensure your journey is smooth, safe, and stress-free.

1. What documents do I need to rent a car in Uganda?
To rent a vehicle for self-drive, you must provide:
A valid driving permit from your home country (must have been held for at least 2 years).
A valid passport for identification.
An International Driving Permit (IDP) if your license is not in English or if you plan on a long-term rental.

2. Is there an age limit for drivers?
Yes. To ensure safety and comply with insurance policies, drivers should be between 23 and 70 years of age. Drivers outside this bracket may be required to hire a professional chauffeur from our team.

3. Can I pick up the car at the airport?
Absolutely. We offer free delivery and pick-up at Entebbe International Airport (EBB). One of our representatives will meet you at the arrivals terminal with a paging board, assist with your luggage, and complete the paperwork right there so you can start your journey immediately.

4. What does the insurance cover?
Our vehicles come with Comprehensive Insurance, which covers:
Third-party property damage and bodily injury.
Major accidental damage to the vehicle.
Theft and fire.
Note: Insurance typically does not cover negligence, such as driving off-road in unauthorized areas or driving under the influence.

5. Can I drive the rental car into Rwanda or Kenya?
Yes, cross-border travel is permitted! However, you must inform us at least 48 hours in advance so we can prepare the necessary COMESA insurance and cross-border authorization documents. There is usually a small additional fee for these permits.

6. What happens if the car breaks down?
Pearl Drive provides 24/7 Roadside Assistance. If you encounter a mechanical issue, simply call our emergency line. We have a network of mechanics across Uganda to assist you, and if the car cannot be fixed quickly, we will provide a replacement vehicle to keep your trip on track.

7. Does the price include fuel?
Our standard rates are exclusive of fuel. We provide the car with a certain amount of fuel (usually a quarter tank), and we ask that you return it at the same level. This “same-to-same” policy ensures you only pay for what you use.
